First-Year Engagement

Biomedical Engineering Society

BMES is receiving this award for their Freshman Course Advising and Track Information Session. This event facilitated meaningful conversations between peers and BME faculty in an engaging, informative, and inclusive space where first-year students felt empowered in their academic journey.

Member Development

FIRST Alumni

FIRST Alumni is receiving this award for their Robot in 3 Days event. This event gave members hands-on experience with robot design, expanding their expertise in mechanical design, electrical engineering, and programming. Members also strengthened their problem-solving skills, teamwork and ability to work collaboratively under pressure. Their video documentation of the 72-hour process gained two million views from high school teams and others around the world.

Outreach & Community: Precollege Engagement

National Society of Black Engineers

NSBE is receiving this award for their Black History Month Meetup Event. This event connected organization members with the LHS Black Student Union and their parents. Through game-oriented stations, the National Society of Black Engineers helped high school students explore the meaning of college readiness.

Outreach & Community: Volunteer Engagement

Theta Tau Xi

Theta Tau is received this award for their volunteer work at The Beacon, a local food bank. During bimonthly visits, Theta Tau served meals, cleaned the facility, and sorted clothing donations. They also had members donate crocheted blankets and connected with attendees through resume creation events.

Engineers Without Borders

EWB is a service organization focused on infrastructure projects around the world. Each project has an outreach group that works in tandem with community leaders, which helps build the skill set of members. Many students have the opportunity to be involved in leadership and contribute to project decisions.

Distinguished Inclusivity

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

SHPE is rooted in culture, expression, and connection. Events like SHPEs and Salsa and Talavera tile painting create moments of joy, connection, and cultural appreciation beyond language or identity. They also prioritize collaboration by consistently partnering with other student orgs and striving for transparency and an open dialogue.

Outstanding Student Organization Leader

Wilfred Shereni

Under Wilfred’s leadership, NSBE has become a more inclusive, opportunity-driven organization, increasing membership and engagement by 87%. Wilfred’s legacy will be one of sustainable growth, mentorship, and professional excellence.

Outstanding Student Organization Members

Zuheb Ibrahim

Zuheb, a junior Computer Science student, was nominated by his organization for his commitment to engagement, mentorship, and community impact. Zuheb uplifts his fellow members, builds others’ confidence, and is dedicated to the professional and academic support of his peers.

Ben Rosewarne

Ben, a sophomore mechanical engineering student, was nominated by his organization for this award for his unwavering commitment to Baja. As machining lead, Ben organized the manufacturing and retrieval of the 300 parts needed for the car. He also took initiative and trained new and older members on welding.

2024

First-Year Engagement: Women in Electrical & Computer Engineering

WECE received this award for their “Girl’s Night” Kickoff event. This event facilitated meaningful conversations between peers and allowed relationships with new members to emerge.

Member Development: Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

SHPE received this award for their MentorSHPE program and LinkedIn workshop event in collaboration with GE Healthcare. This event allowed new and current members to be paired with mentors who provided one-on-one guidance, support, and insight into navigating the engineering industry.

Community Engagement: Engineering EXPO

EXPO received this award for their annual event in collaboration with the College of Engineering. This event helps the local Madison community learn more about STEM fields through industry events, keynote speakers, and interactive student exhibits.

Outstanding Student Organization Leader: Lydia Malen

Lydia is the VP of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity for the Society of Women Engineers. She was nominated by her peers for this award due to the great care, passion, and grace she exudes in her work. Notably, Lydia worked on creating more conversation-based events centered around mental health this past year.

Outstanding Student Organization Member: Tessa Haldes

Tessa, current member and former president of ECE GSA, was nominated by a peer for this award for her infectious positive attitude and active participation in her organization. Tessa is noted for her contributions to grad student representation in committees and events.

Outstanding Student Organization Advisor: Jesse Hampton

Jesse received this award for his dedication in providing guidance to Engineers Without Borders, despite balancing many commitments. He is also noted for supporting student leaders in navigating problem solving challenges, while still allowing them to address issues on their own.

Exceptional Team Development: Wisconsin Robotics

Wisconsin Robotics is a student-led organization focused on advancing robotics. To ensure continuous member development, their new members undergo a three-week training program to get up to speed with all aspects of the team. With a project-oriented approach, separating projects into smaller tasks, they have been able to grow from 15 to over 60 members, all of whom contribute meaningfully towards the project.

Distinguished Inclusivity: Queer & Trans Engineers

As an identity based organization, QTE is noted for their commitment to diversity and inclusion. They received this award for ensuring members of diverse backgrounds and experiences are involved in decision-making processes and for broadening perspectives through collaboration with other organizations.

Excellence in Advancing the Badger Engineering Experience: Engineers Without Borders

EWB gives members the opportunity to get hands-on, real-world engineering experience at all stages of their academic journey. Students engage in civil infrastructure projects located in Guatemala, Uganda, Puerto Rico, and Nicaragua. All work is student-led, and students gain experience in project management, financial management, system design, structural analysis, cross-functional communication, and much more.
